Aging Gracefully:  Living Our Best Life
- September 11, 2010
9:00 A.M.-3:00 P.M.
"Aging Gracefully" is not simply a euphemism that attempts to soften the reality of growing old. Rather, it is an invitation to discover the continuing truth of Jesus’ promise: "I have come that you might have life, and have it to the full." This day will explore the deeper invitation of Jesus to those of us in the second half of life. By examining the attitudes and strategies essential for living a happy life at any age, we hope to discover that, accepting the limits that aging imposes can expand our horizons and free us to become our wisest and best selves.

Caring for persons with chronic illness or disabilities is a rewarding endeavor, but often places extreme demands on the caregiver.  Caregivers can become overwhelmed trying to balance work, family, and caregiving demands, often resulting in the neglect of their own well-being.  They often become depleted, disenchanted with their work or simply do not care for themselves as well as they do for others.  This retreat is a time of respite for caregivers to refresh body, mind and spirit.  Come join us and obtain a renewed sense of purpose and relaxation and simple approaches to maintaining balance in your life.  Resource information will be available.

Introduction to Centering Prayer
- November 6, 2010 and/or February 12, 2011
10:00 A.M.- 3:00 P.M.
This introduction to centering prayer is a presentation of the discipline of centering prayer as silent communion with God beyond concepts, words and images.  The workshop includes instruction on the method of centering prayer and the practice of centering prayer in a one-day workshop, followed by six weekly sessions.  No previous experience is required.  Centering prayer is not meant to replace other kinds of prayer.  Rather, it adds depth of meaning to all prayer.  Centering prayer emphasizes prayer as a personal relationship with God and as a movement beyond conversation with God to communion with God.

Saints Alive!  Themes for Living Life as a Spiritual Litany
November 13, 2010
10:00 A.M.- 3:00 P.M.
Saints are not just part of the faith stories of our past.  They are alive today whenever people are inspired to live the universal call to holiness and leave a spiritual legacy for others to follow.  This day of reflection will access saints, mystics, and mysteries of faith as doorways to God.  They will help us ponder how what we do with our lived experiences influences the spiritual legacy we leave behind as a path for others to find their way to God.  The Gospel of St. Luke will be used as a prototype of the legacy of Jesus.

Participants are asked to bring a Bible, an active religious imagination and a desire of the heart that seeks to be conformed to the divine heart.

Litanies & Legacies--Mystics & Mysteries will be used as a spiritual reference and may be purchased for $15.  A percentage of each book sold is earmarked for the scholarship fund at the Benedictine School for Autistic and Special Needs children in Ridgely, MD.
