FSC Staff

Julie Prey, MDiv is the Director of the Center. Her past experience includes almost two decades of work as an interfaith chaplain in hospital and home hospice settings. She has led trainings for faith communities and healthcare workers, and retreats for women of faith. Julie was raised in the United Church of Christ, became a Mennonite while studying Youth Ministry and Sociology at Eastern University, and received her Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary (Presbyterian). She is an endorsed member of the Federation of Christian Ministries.  She is now a practicing Buddhist in the Plum Village tradition of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh – an engaged Buddhism which shares much in common with Franciscan values. She welcomes people of all faiths (and no faith) to the Center to find rest for body and mind, a community of support and caring, and insight for living and growth.

Responsible for designing, marketing, coordinating and implementing all programs.  Marie Angela has extensive professional experience as an educator and administrator  and has been involved in programs at parishes in which she ministered   She brings a heart filled with warmth and hospitality and an eye for design that makes our Spiritual Center decor speak the language of God simply by being.

Julie is responsible for the creation and upkeep of the Website for the Franciscan Spiritual Center as well as our Facebook and Twitter pages and the Center’s Blog as well as the e-newsletter.  She is a program presenter and helps with hospitality, Spiritual Direction, and Directed Retreats.   Her past ministries included a Cardiovascular Clinical Nurse Specialty, teaching nursing at Neumann University,  hospital administration, and data analysis in our Development Office.

Clare is a program presenter and spiritual director. For half of her forty-five years in ministry, Clare has served in retreat work, offering spiritual direction, directed and conference retreats, as well as numerous workshops in Franciscan spirituality.  Clare previously served as a staff member of the Franciscan Pilgrimage Programs in Assisi, Italy.  Her other ministerial experience has included congregational and provincial leadership, secondary and collegiate education, and a variety of additional administrative roles both within and outside of her congregation.

Helen is responsible for coordinating the hermitages.  Helen also handles the Center’s bookkeeping.  She has served in elementary and secondary education and administration as well as in pastoral ministry.  Her study and writing on Franciscan spirituality, as well as her theology and pastoral studies degrees, enrich her ministry as a certified spiritual director and as a supervisor for spiritual directors at Neumann University.

Mary’s ministry includes spiritual direction and directed  retreats. With an MA in Pastoral Counseling, she is certified in spiritual direction, a supervisor for spiritual direction at Neumann University, and a Focusing Trainer.   She has experience in elementary education and parish ministry and has a strong desire to support others in various prayer modalities that will open their heart to God

Jean oversees maintenance, hospitality and the calendar for St. Elizabeth House (used in place of Clare House).  Previously Jean served the congregation as the director of its associate program, Franciscan Companions in Mission, and as a pastoral counselor and school guidance counselor.   She offers guided retreats at St. Elizabeth House and participates in the Franciscan Solitude Experience.

Patricia M. Platt, a long-time resident of Aston, is excited to be part of the FSC-Aston staff as registrar.  She has had extensive education in the Franciscan charism and has enjoyed directing a parish Bible study group and volunteering for various needs of the Sisters of St. Francis.  Pat is retired from her previous work in health care administration as director of pediatric residency and as director of family residency and medical practices for Crozer Keystone Health System.  She is a graduate of Neumann University and is well-versed in computer skills.
